Given the fact that it’s so close to Burning Man, things seem a little slow. That will change come the 2nd week in September or so.

Alrighty! I am so excited about Thursday nights costume party. We have a few extra treats for all of you. And if you have not RSVP’d yet, please do so ASAP. Space is filling up, and you won’t want to miss out on this little shindig.
DJ’s Azmyth and Satchi will be rockin’ the decks, and there will be live performance painting by LA’s controversial and world renowned artist Emmeric (who many of you may have seen his art at Bedlam).
There will be several sewing machines and babes available for minor alterations, and additions.
Enjoy an open Bar and Hors D’oeuvres from 9.00 pm
Arrive by 10.45 pm @ which time everyone will be given a box, with a number on it and a wristband. Write your name on the box and the number on the wristband.
@ 10.55pm the doors will be closed, for every ones protection and privacy.
At 11.00 0′clock the room will fill with the sultry erotic sounds, of an old burlesque bump and grind number.
AND THE WHOLE PARTY STRIPS!!! (You don’t have to get naked) (clean undies will make Mother happy)
All your street stuff goes in your box, is taped up and locked away.

There will be: Faux fur coats, Leather pants and skirts, Crazy colorful tops, pants, skirts and dresses, Ball gowns, vintage clothes, Lingerie, Boots, Shoes and lots of accessories. Put together an outfit to wear home or to the next party! YES YOU KEEP YOUR OUTFIT!
We Respectfully ask that no cameras be used in the open party.
There will be an instant gratification area for those wanting to take pictures or pose.
The majority of the clothes are women’s. This shouldn’t be a problem, as the men in this Tribe can pimp anything . With this in mind however and due to the nature of the party, we will not be admitting UNESCORTED MEN! Sorry Gentlemen. You’re welcome Ladies.

Spend your Saturday afternoons in August in the beautiful Topanga Mountains, delving deep into the incredible world of drumming. There will be an African Drumming Workshop, short break to enjoy the highs from the drumming and fresh mountain air, and then continue with a Middle Eastern Drumming Workshop. SESSION 1: MIDDLE EASTERN AND INDIAN DRUMMING
Class includes learning: how to play the Frame drum, traditional Middle Eastern Rhythms, how to improvise in even/ odd meters (based from Indian Rhythmic concepts), vocal percussion (from South India) and structured group jams!!
SESSION 2: WEST AFRICAN DRUMMING AND DANCING FROM GHANA
This music teaches you how to keep solid time, listen to others, incredible polyrhythm’s, traditional Ghanian dancing, stick control and it’s just simply so much fun to play!!

** PRE-BURNING MAN EVENTS IN RENO: FRI. AUG. 25 **
#1 There is a free pre-burn concert/event on Aug 25 in Reno, at Wingfield park that we are producing to encourage people to come out and test their costumes, lighting efx, etc. there will be 4 hours of music (hours are 5-9 PM), and fire spinners and what we hope will be a great place to get your proverbial feces together before hitting the playa. ** ART WRITERS GRANT PROGRAM **
Initiated by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and administered by Creative Capital, The Creative Capital | Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant is a three-year pilot program designed to support critical writing on contemporary visual art through project-based grants issued directly to individual authors.
The first program of its type, it was founded in recognition of both the financially precarious situation of arts writers and their indispensable contribution to a vital artistic culture. Through awards for books, articles, and work in new and alternative media, The Creative Capital | Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant aims to honor and encourage:
• Writing about art that is rigorous, passionate, eloquent, and precise
• Writing about art in which a keen engagement with the present is infused with an appreciation of the historical
• Writing about art that is neither afraid to take a stand, nor content to deliver authoritative pronouncements, but seeks rather to pose questions and generate new possibilities for thinking, seeing, and making
• Writing about art that is sensitive to both the importance and difficulty of situating aesthetic objects within their broader social and political contexts
• Writing about art that does not dilute or sidestep complex ideas but renders accessible their meaning and value
• Writing about art that challenges creatively the limits of existing conventions, without valorizing novelty as an end in itself.

What is a planet? For years, astronomers have been debating that question, with the status of tiny Pluto hanging in the balance. Finally, an answer is in the offing. Today, the International Astronomical Union’s Planet Definition Committee announced their proposal for a new, official definition of “planet.” If the proposal is approved by a vote of IAU astronomers on August 24th, the number of planets in the Solar System would swell from nine to twelve. And, yes, Pluto would be among them.

** RICK & MIMI KENT’S “CHUTZPAH THIS IS” **
Sorry for the mass email but I wanted to share the latest from low-fi filmworks. “Chutzpah this is?” is now a featured film on myspace. I think they’ve posted the entire film online. So if you haven’t seen it yet, turn on your DSL kick up your heels and check it out. For those who haven’t seen it yet “Chutzpah” is a mockumentary chronicling the struggles of the worlds first Jewish Hip-Hop Supergroup. It features George Segal, Gary Oldman, Debbie Mazar, and some really great music and performances from Tor Hyams, Jerran Friedman and David Scharf aka Chutzpah. It was written and directed by yours truly and produced by the lovely Mimi Kent. It’s had great showings at the HBO Aspen Comedy Fest and many other festivals.
