The 5th annual Moondrop will take place at the Madre Grande Monastary in Dulzura, Ca and is a fundraiser for this beautiful space.
Moondrop Begins Friday, August 11th, and continues through Sunday, August 13th.
Please come prepared & bring tents, food & water (none will be provided or sold), flashlights, art & drums.
Walk-in camping only. This is a leave no trace event: Pack out what you pack in.
Gates open @ 4pm on Friday August 11th
and close @ 2pm Sunday August 13th.

Laserium Shows will be presented in the Van Nuys Cyberstudio of Laser Images, Inc. at 6:00, 8:00 and 10:00 on Saturdays throughout August.

7 WEEKS OF GROOVE TRAINING
There are many ways to spin poi/staff. You can use tails for daytime dancing, blacklights, LED, or glowsticks for indoors, or the most exciting way of all…. with fire! Whether you’d like to become a professional dancer or simply enjoy spinning for the amazing benefits, our 7 week classes will take you from a beginner to an experienced staff or poi dancer ready to mesmerize with fire, glow and tails!
Our classes run twice a week for 7 weeks, each building upon the prior one. When you finish this course, you will have a solid foundation in poi/staff. You’ll feel comfortable enough with the the tool to add in your own dance and style. You’ll also have a strong knowledge on fire safety, including hands-on experience. The series ends with a special “lighting-up ceremony” where in a very safe setting, each individual will have the opportunity to begin their own Fire Groove.

We’re delighted to report that Creative Capital’s distinct approach to working with artists was recognized this week in an Associated Press article appearing in the Chicago Tribune. The article has also appeared in the LA Times, U.S. News and World Report, Yahoo! Finance, and Forbes.com, among others.

Philanthropic and for-profit organizations offer education, health care, steady income by Dave Carpenter:
Mostly self-employed or relying on part-time teaching jobs, many artists tend to have shaky finances and scant prospects for improving them aside from going into another profession. But some institutions have sprung up to try to help–and ideally thrive financially at the same time. . . .
The New York-based non-profit [Creative Capital] has not only given out more than $6 million to 242 artists–an average of $25,000 to $35,000 per project–but it has trained more than 1,000 artists in career planning, money and time management.
“There’s a lot of mythology around this stuff for artists,” Ruby Lerner, the group’s founding CEO and president, said of the financial aspect. “A lot of what happens in art school is that people aren’t prepared for this. They think, `If I’m really good, things will just come to me.’”

On July 11th, community builder Commander Dazzle set out on a journey to New York city for a sabattical from her efforts to combat the evils of gentrification in downtown Los Angeles. For the last six months, she has gone up against old downtown demons to fight the good fight for the rise of arts and entertainment in downtown’s growth process. She had been feeling increasingly ill, and needed a rest.
She never made it to New York.
On a layover in her homeland of Denver, Colorado, she was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery. There has not been a case more severe of internal bleeding in over 30 years of that hospital’s history.
Commander Dazzle now needs the help of the community!

Reno to Playa Rideshare Project 2006
The Reno to Playa ride share rendezvous location is being hosted by Twin City Surplus at 1675 East 4th Street in Reno again this year.There will be a portable toilet, shade, some trash bins and all the stuff Twin City offers including water and camping / playa supplies, but no close-by grocery shopping. If you need to grocery shop then do so first, then make your way to Twin City. You can repackage for the playa there and use the trash bins to discard store packaging.
To get to Twin City Surplus, 1675 East 4th Street:
* From I80 take the Wells Avenue Exit and go south one block to 6th Street.
* Turn east on 6th and go about 6 blocks to where it joins 4th Street
* Look left and see large water tanks belonging to Twin. Turn in there.
* That is the rendezvous parking location.
Please do not park in front of the store entrance as you will interfere with normal store traffic. Please don’t ask Twin employees about the ride share project or rider/driver status. They don’t know anything about that; they just provide the location.

It is an effort by the Reno Burning Man Community to help Burners who arrive in Reno without ground transportation get to the playa, and to give those who are driving to the playa a chance to give a ride and meet interesting people. If you’re driving please consider stopping by to give somebody a ride.

Hello Again,
I’m happy to announce the unveiling of the new blog site for TwansList. Over the years, people have mentioned that it might be a good idea to have a web based home for the list. It took a while, but now that I’m stepping out of the role of L.A.’s Burning Man regional point man, I have more time to do other things. Hence the creation of the TwansList blog. Which is just one of a number of projects I’m working on currently.
I’m still in the process of figuring out how to set it up in the most effective, aesthetically appealing way, and so please bare with me as I attempt to finesse it to perfection. The thing I love about perfection is that it is rarely achieved…. which is a good thing. There’s always something more to do in the quest for perfection. I’m putting it out to the world now as I’m anxious to get up and running.

** CORRECTION RE: EARTHQUAKE SAFETY MESSAGE IN PREV. POST **
(Many thanx to the 3 sleuths within our tribe who correted me about the earthquake safety ???triangle of life??? posting I sent out in my last posting to this list. Apologies for not having caught this before sending. Here is an update??? ???Twan)

There???s a lot of false information in there and the writer is under investigation for fraud.
Origins: We can???t say that every single point mentioned in the above article about earthquake safety by controversial ???rescue expert??? Doug Copp is wrong or bad advice, but there are some pretty substantial reasons why readers might want to take the article (particularly its advice that everyone who uses the ???duck and cover??? technique in an earthquake ends up crushed to death) with some very large grains of salt:
Disaster preparedness experts with the American Red Cross dispute that findings based on earthquake experiences in other countries (e.g., Turkey) are applicable to the U.S., where building codes are substantially different.
The scientific validity of the conclusions expressed in the article has been questioned by others.
Doug Copp???s claim that he performed rescue work at the World Trade Center (for which he was paid $650,000 in compensation for injuries he supposedly sustained there) has been challenged in a series of articles published in the Albuquerque Journal which describe him as a self-serving opportunist rather than a true rescue expert:
Self-proclaimed rescue guru Doug Copp???s mission to ground zero was considered so important that he had clearance to be flown to New York even though all civilian air traffic in the United States had been grounded. Once there, he says he assumed a pivotal role and sustained devastating injuries while wading through the ???toxic soup??? in search of survivors and victims, and was awarded nearly $650,000 for his injuries. But there is little evidence Copp performed real rescue work, and it is doubtful that he deserves compensation.
Doug Copp was awarded $649,000, tax free, from the fund set up to compensate victims of 9/11. He says it???s not enough. But it???s doubtful he deserves anything. A Journal investigation found little evidence that Copp did real rescue work in New York. His forays into the rubble were to shoot video, some of which he tried to sell. His claim of seeking medical care within the time frame appears false. All typical of Copp???s years as a self-proclaimed rescue guru. Other articles have relayed complaints from numerous people who have dealt with Mr. Copp.
Mr. Copp is under investigation by a U.S. Department of Justice fraud unit. We???d recommend sticking with safety information prepared by established earthquake safety experts, such as the American Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

once more to join us on an spectacular tour of the San
Diego bay on a multilevel yacht.
FOR EVERYONE IN LOS ANGELES:
We are planning on taking A PARTY TRAIN down to San Diego. Details soon,
but we’re meeting at Union Station early in the afternoon and boarding
Amtrak down to San Diego since it drops us off one block from where we
load/dock. All L.A. DJs will be on the Amtrak train serving up tasty
treats and chatting out nasty beats. Wolfie and Porter will lead you all
in our favorite old campfire songs to get you in the mood for luscious
pirate babes and cocktails. We’ll hang Saynt out of the window just
because we can. We’ll put signs on Jesse’s back. It’ll be fun!
Train times and ticket info coming soon (next week.) At almost four bucks
a gallon, save your exhaust and get on Amtrak with L.A. finest and cruise
down to SD in style.
Then, once we get to San Diego, we board the party crusier:
Entertainment includes a Reggae band on the top deck,
two levels of music with 8 DJs, gambling tables on the
captain’s deck and complete hosted VIP lounge. Three
VIP style decks, each with 2500 sq ft of wide-open
space, 8 bartenders in four full bars and 8 wait staff
serving up your favorite cocktail.

Luxury limo buses will pick you up along with 40 other

party and back to the yacht at when you are ready to

The Sacred ‘Divine’ Feminine means different things to each of us, at its most essential it is that life force within every sentient being, every woman and man, as the creator, the nurturer, the receiver… These thoughts are renewing a reverance into what constitutes the meaning of the feminine. The Sacred Feminine is a term used for the that mysterious source of all life, the wellspring of creation, the trilogy of life, death, and rebirth. The “She” as some would say is birthed within both male and female forms. The circle which symbolizes the essence of the feminine contains both the yin and yang as an interconnecting force of life. ** 10/28/06: VENICE BEACH CARNIVALE FREE EVENT **
This year the Venice Carnevale is shaping up bigger, stronger and better than ever. The Venice Carnevale committee has fought a huge battle with the city, police and neighbors so that we can have this event for the fifth year, and now they’ve generously offered our community a burning man and DJ area. The organizing committee is giving us a wonderful space for our dear community, for the second year. They are giving us a huge city block where we can play, dress up, set up our theme camps and play music in an artistic evironment by the sea!
This is a FREE event on October 28th and goes from noon to 10 pm, (with an after party) in Venice, CA, in the tradition of Venice Italy’s masked Carnevale. I know that you guys are all thinking about Black Rock City right now, but I’d like you guys to keep this in mind and plan on participating. We need you so this event is a success once again. Bring your Artcar, Bikeart, your Theme Camp, your poi, your hoop. Contact us so we can place you! Bring a little bit of what you have learned on the playa and share it with the people in a public street party. Today BRC, tomorrow the world!
